Ball's departure comes amid reports that the Department of Justice is investigating Gaetz (R-Fla.) for an alleged sexual relationship with a 17-year-old and looking into whether he may have violated sex trafficking laws. Gaetz has denied the allegations.
"The Office of Congressman Matt Gaetz and Luke Ball have agreed that it would be best to part ways," his office said in a statement to POLITICO. "We thank him for his time in our office, and we wish him the best moving forward."
NBC News was first to report Ball's departure, saying he resigned.
