In May, Plunkett pled guilty to one count of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated assault and battery. Wilking gave Wilking a 10-year sentence for the assault offense on top of the life term. Under state law, any youngster who gets a life sentence must be able to get out of jail after 25 years.The Casper Star-Tribune said that the judge was quite clear when she talked about Plunkett's acts at the sentence hearing. She said, "Stabbing someone to death is the most cowardly thing I can imagine."
Wilking is believed to have commented, "They could have fought it out at the mall." "That's how we did things back then."
On Friday, prosecutors called Plunkett and his co-defendant, Dominique Antonio Richard Harris, "wild animals" when they assaulted and killed Maher on April 7, 2024.
Last month, Harris, who held the victim down as Plunkett stabbed him, pled guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit second-degree murder. There is no date set for his sentence hearing.
About two weeks before the deadly stabbing, Harris and Plunkett had a fight with Maher in a nearby park, as Law&Crime first revealed. Two days before the murder, the defendants ran across Maher's girlfriend and friend. Plunkett is said to have asked the friend if he "wanted to pay Bobby's blood debt."
According to an affidavit acquired by local K2 Radio, Harris and Plunkett were playing hide-and-seek in a Best Buy in the Eastridge Mall in Casper, Wyoming, on the day of the murder.
The two youths chose to take knives from a shop after the game. Later, they met Maher's girlfriend and started to follow her. When the two spotted Maher leave a DICK's Sporting Goods store, they got into a fight.
The fight started outside the sports goods store, and a lot of people immediately came to witness.
The affidavit added that the attackers finally got on either side of the youngster. After that, Harris can be seen grabbing Maher "around the waist, lifting him off the ground, and slamming him down hard on his left side."
Police say the killing strikes followed soon after.
"Dominique [Harris] is seen holding (Maher) while Jarreth [Plunkett] jumped in," police stated in a probable cause document, referring to a cellphone video. "Dominique seemed to hit (Maher) in the face, and Jarreth is seen swinging the knife down and stabbing (Maher) twice."
In a previous court appearance, video of the incident showed Maher being stabbed, getting up, walking a few steps into the mall, and then falling down.
Harris had already informed police that he was holding Maher down, but he said he was simply doing it "to make sure the fight was over."
